Cyber X'mas

25th of December, 2020

Christmas is the season of love, harmony, and celebration. It is a day we all celebrate with great joy and happiness. So the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya organized our first-ever virtual Christmas celebration, 'Cyber Xmas 2020', to share happiness. It was conducted via Zoom and Facebook live platform with the participation of over 300 participants.

The event's main objective was to raise our club fund while helping our people move away from the stressful lives they were dealing with due to the pandemic. So celebrating Christmas on a virtual platform was selected as a suitable alternative during a period where physical entertainment events were not possible.

Many famous characters joined us to brighten up the event with their comedy, music, and magic performances. The distinguished guests included Mrs Reeni De Silva, Mr Vindula Nicola Attygala, Mr Yasas Gunarathne, Mr Dilshan Wasala, Mr Ravi Royster, and the famous duo Samare & Samare. We also organized an Open Mic session, a Christmas decoration competition, and a Kahoot Quiz for all participants to enjoy the event. This allowed everybody to take part in the event and be active instead of just watching their screens

We initiated a raffle draw before the main event, and the winners received valuable prizes and gift vouchers from our sponsors. Winners of the quiz and decoration competition were also given valuable gifts for their achievements.

The "Cyber Xmas 2020" was arranged as the annual year-end get-together of the club to provide entertainment and a new experience to everyone. This event was an excellent way for people under tension at home and could not celebrate Christmas in the usual way this year. So, it was a great and innovative opportunity for everybody, regardless of culture and creed, to get virtual entertainment. "Cyber Xmas 2020" was fun-filled because it was associated with various items like music, comedy, and magic with the professional artists in Sri Lanka. The open mic session was an opportunity for the participants to showcase their talents. Another objective of this project was to collect the funds needed for the upcoming Rotaract year, where it will be used to organize numerous projects planned for 2021, which will help make the community a better place for children and adults alike. The raffle draw held in tandem with Cyber Xmas served as the fundraiser.
